IN THE RAW® SWEETENERS ANNOUNCES SUPPORT OF SANDY-RAVAGED ROCKAWAY COMMUNITY

Brooklyn, NY (October 9, 2013) – In conjunction with the one-year anniversary of super-storm Sandy, the In The Raw® brand of natural sweeteners announces its support of a much-needed, revitalization program for healthy food access in Rockaway, NY, which was devastated in 2012 and continues to struggle one year later.

The In The Raw® brand has made a $10,000 donation to the non-profit Rockaway Rescue Alliance’s Shore Soup Project, to help build a permanent pay-as-you-can style restaurant, SHORE, for the Rockaway community; product for the Shore Soup’s Food Relief Truck, which served healthy food to more than 50,000 people, post-Sandy; and a special “one-for-one” promotion, in which every In The Raw® item purchased through the online storeduring the month of October, it will be matched and donated for the non-profit group’s use.

SHORE, which will feature organic fare, will serve as an anchor for the community as it continues to recover and will provide the residents access to healthy food, nutrition workshops, a community garden, and mentorship and employment opportunities.

The Rockaways have a deep connection to In The Raw®, as the hometown of founder, Marvin Eisenstadt, whose home was also greatly affected by the storm. “The people of the Rockaways still need assistance and we are proud to be part of an important initiative that will have long-lasting, positive effects on the community,” said Marvin Eisenstadt.

The Shore Soup Project will hold a first major benefit on October 23, 2013 at The Bowery Hotel in New York City to raise funds for SHORE.
