The Company We Keep
Backstory Coffee Roasters began in Saint Paul, MN in 2014. It has a vision "to inspire others to greater care for people by sharing our love of delicious coffees." At their online store, you'll find approachable blends and a rotating selection of fresh, single-origin coffees. Their Twin Cities coffee bars are known for inspired seasonal specialty beverages and a welcoming, neighborhood atmosphere.

When people leave, what do you hope they’re saying?
That they felt genuinely welcomed into our community and that they experienced one of the great coffees of their life.
What’s something guests might not notice but you care deeply about?
Our attention to detail. Beyond our carefully sourced coffees and intentional roasting, we make our specialty beverage syrups in-house with thoughtfully chosen and often local ingredients. Our milk is delivered from a family-owned, local farm. We also brew our non-dairy milks in-house & create all the tasty items on our small food menu in our own kitchen.
Where are you choosing to do less these days?
If you’re at the roastery, the featured pour over! It’s always our most recent release, and you can pick up a bag of the same freshly roasted coffee. And no matter which location, you’ve got to try one of our rotating Seasonal Specialties. They’re made with housemade syrups and local ingredients and always crafted with care.
What should someone order on their first visit?
If you're a coffee person, either an espresso to taste the pure freshness of our coffee or a pour over of one of our limited edition experimental microlots. If coffee isn't your thing, try our Sparkling Cascara, a refreshing all-natural soda made from cold pressed coffee cherries, filled with antioxidants and ⅓ of the caffeine of a cup of coffee. Oh, and don't sleep on our signature Guava and Cheese croissant!
